Purging Makes Way For Surging
Purging can be described as clearing, removing, banishing, relieving, emptying, expelling, eradicating, discarding, abandoning and freeing yourself from something that is unwanted or undesirable.
The idea of purging is something we typically associate with clutter in our external world. We focus our attention on areas that feel disorderly and we get rid of items and eliminate them because they are causing an overwhelm in our lives. This can be drawers, closets, rooms, & buildings where we need to bring some semblance of order because they are impeding movement and reducing effectiveness. This is very important to create and maintain a process so things don’t get out of control.
We don’t typically think of the purging process for our inner world, but focusing your attention on purging here is equally as important too. This can be negative self judgment, unconscious choices, toxic relationships, old habits, distractions, lack of self care and low self worth.
Purging in both your outer and inner world can allow for a surge to take place where movement forward is like a strong wave, rolling or sweeping you into a constant state of freedom, joy and creative fulfillment.
The start of a New Year is a great opportunity to start purging. Purging things in your outer and inner world at the same time can be helpful to ensure balance and reinforce your state of being with your state of doing.
Here’s how it’s done!
Create two columns on a piece of paper that say “Outer Purge” and “Inner Purge”.
In each of the columns write down these two words at the top
Eliminate (Get Rid Of)
Keep (Improve)
Begin to identify and write down all items, elements and areas in your outer and inner world that are causing you to feel a certain way, such as:
-Overwhelmed
- Disorganized
- Cluttered
- Stressed
- Undesirable
- Unworthy
- Unhappy
- Shameful
Next to each item under both columns you are going to either write the word “eliminate” or “keep” next to it. Any item that does not positively support you in a healthy & creative way is something that you want to consider eliminating all together. Any item that you feel could be useful and could add value once improved is something you want to consider keeping.
Alternate between your outer and inner focus each time you work on the purge. Balancing both will help to reinforce how you are feeling with what you are doing at the same time. Doing them consistently will begin to create flow, movement, order, organization, clarity, and consistent habits that will allow you to create a surge that will roll you into each day ready to create & experience the flow of life.
Things to consider as you start this process:
Before you start - What essentials will you need?
Just Begin - This can be the hardest part
Have a plan - What do you want to begin with first?
Start small - Choose a small project to start with
Set a timer - Short increments help you keep it manageable
Be Consistent - Time block each day/week/month
Final Destination - Where will the eliminated items go?
Create a system - For ongoing maintenance in each area
Make it fun - Put on some music, enjoy your yourself and smile
Hire a professional - Get support where needed
Keep going - This is ongoing & will get easier
You have to purge to experience the surge! You got this!
